Rainbow Village 彩虹眷村
408, Taiwan, Taichung City, Nantun District, 春安路56巷
In Rainbow Military Dependents’ Village (彩虹眷村), all paintings on the wall are created by the veteran, Mr. Huang. He was born in HK and he used to fight against Communists in Mainland China. After Kuo-min-tang, the ruling party of R.O.C. at that time, lost the Chinese Civil War, he retreated to Taiwan with KMT military and stayed in this village permanently. In 2008, he came out of an idea to paint the wall with various colors. Starting from his house, he gradually finished the whole block. He didn't have a particular scheme. Aircrafts, pandas, buffalos, birds or anything on newspaper are his painting subjects.
In the demolishing and replacing program for military dependent’s village, the rainbow village was planned to be torn down years ago. However, more and more artists and tourists came here for joint creation and photography, asking the government to preserve this village. Taichung mayor’s email box was jammed by thousands of petitions. Eventually, this village was saved and became one of the most popular attractions in Taichung. If you come at the right time, you may also see a street performer in Iron Man mask performing music for you. Please support him and Mr. Huang to continue their ongoing creation!

921 Earthquake Museum 九二一地震教育園區
At 01:47AM on September 21, 1999, the central part of Taiwan was struck by an earthquake that registered 7.3 on the Richter Scale. The resultant loss of life and damage to property put it among the worst natural disasters of the past century in Taiwan. In the wake of the 921 disaster, the local government decided to preserve some of the phenomena related to the earthquake such as slips in the fault line, collapsed school structures, raised river beds and other selected locations, to serve as reminders for the public of the need to prepare for such disasters and to be ready to provide emergency rescue services.
With the rebuilding of Kwangfu Junior High on its present site, the Earthquake Memorial Museum was renamed the 921 Earthquake Museum of Taiwan on February 13, 2001. The new plan retains the original sites as a record of the damage wrought by the earthquake, and it also adds educational facilities designed to inform the public and school children about earthquakes and disaster readiness.

Nantou Sky Bridge is located in the Houtanjing Recreation Area in the Baguashan mountainous area. It is a 204-meters long bridge, the longest ladder suspension bridge in Taiwan with 262 steps. The middle of the bridge is suspended 70 meters above Shetou Township, Changhua, where tourists are offered with stunning extensive views overlooking Changhua plain. At the night, the bridge lights with colored LED lights, making it looks even more fascinating than daytime.
Initially I thought of going to Zhushan Tianti Sky Ladder. As it is further away and requires hikes of more than 3hrs (at least 1.5hrs getting in and another 1.5hrs turning back), the Nantou Sky Bridge is a good alternative. Though the latter would probably have been a better hiking experience, but with daylight in short supply I decided on the former. Zhushan Tianti Sky Ladder is 136m in length with 208 steps.
